WWE Toronto House Show Review 30/12/15

Last night WWE presented yet another house show at Ricoh Colliusm without key individuals due to injuries and other superstars being at a different house show on the same day in Baltimore. However it exceeded my expectations as I always do I will provide you with my three count as well as the results.

1) The Main Event

It was Alberto Del Rio against John Cena for US Title and these two ever since Del Rio return to the WWE in October at the Hell in a Cell PPV they have had a series of great matches. Last night was no different the crowd was very vocally as expected and they were split between the two. For the majority of the match Del Rio seemed to control Cena and did damage all over his body but he focused on Cena’s head with numerous Super kicks to Cena followed by targeting his arm for Del Rio Arm breaker. Cena did his traditional spots and move sets there was a referee bump therefore Del Rio tried to capitalized by hitting Cena with the US Title.

Then another referee came down to the ring to count but Alberto Del Rio only got a near fall. Then eventually John Cena connected with the AA but he was being greedy and he wanted to finish the match with the STF but Del Rio was able to break the hold. Then both men were fighting for momentum and then ADR gave Cena a low blow therefore Cena won by DQ but Del Rio was able to retain his US title. Then once the match ended Alberto Del Rio brutally assaulted Cena with a multiple steel chair shots to Cena’s stomach and then Cena was able to regain his strength he connected with an AA on Del Rio and then the show ended.

2) Rivals

This was the match that I was mostly looking forward to on the card because I knew these two would tear down the house and that’s exactly what they did. In my opinion this should have been the main event instead. Before the match even started Kevin Owens got mad at NXT ring announcer Greg Hamilton told him to reintroduce himself and he stated Marieville Quebec is the best province in Canada its way better than Toronto to truly get significant heat.

I am not surprised at all with the crowd’s reaction despite Owens being a heel the crowd was split between the two. This match was an all-out war both men literally beat each other up and took each other to the limit they even fought on the outside. Both men did their traditional slots the finishing sequence was absolutely insane both countered each other moves then Ambrose hit the Dirty Deeds out of nowhere to retain his Intercontinental title.

3) Women Match opening challenge

After the intermission Charlotte came out with a very festive Christmas outfit she was clearly still in the Christmas. Charlotte has a new found swagger about herself and she put out an open challenge for her Divas title. To nobody surprise it was Becky Lynch she accepted the challenge at first Charlotte was very shocked to say the least. This was another quality match between the two in what is shaping up to be a compelling feud between the two for the next couple of months.

Regardless of the reaction of Becky Lynch that she’s getting on TV but she is clearly over at live events. It looked like Lynch was going to pick up the win via the Dis-Arm-Her but Charlotte find a way to break out of the hold. Then both women took each other to the limit then as soon as Charlotte saw an opening she hit the Natural Section to pick up the victory and retain her Divas Title.

Overall I was very surprised with the house show last night it was surprising very entertaining without Rollins, Cesaro and The New Day. I would give this event a 7.5/10 but the real news is that a WWE Network Special is coming to Ricoh Colliusm on March 12! It’s about time that the WWE gives Toronto a special event because Toronto has been starving for a significant event ever since Unforgiven 2006.

Smash Wrestling London Calling Review 29/12/15

Yesterday I watched London Is Calling exclusively on Smash on Demand only for an incredible $7.49 a month giving you access to everything that Smash Wrestling has ever produced. Now even before I get started with my review of the show I must say that the Cowboys Ranch has been my favourite venue that’s Smash Wrestling, has been running shows out of because it has a unique look that stands out compared to the other venues.

1) Brent Banks Invitational

Fans say whatever they want about Brent Banks, love him or hate him he has always been a constant measuring stick of Smash Wrestling and as of late Banks has been struggling to win matches. That being said the Brent Banks invitational has been monumental for developing fresh new talent in Smash Wrestling. Brent Banks had his hands full with his opponents such as Facade, Dillon Andrews and finally The Remix of Pro Wrestling Kevin Bennett.

I thought that this match was once again very entertaining which it’s not a surprise because the previous Brent Banks invitationals have never disappointed. This match was perfectly booked because each competitor got their spots in and made the fans rise to their feet, the finishing sequence was crazy because Banks tried to capitalize on pinning Facade after he was taken out but to everybody’s surprise Dillon Andrews hit the One Man Dynasty Brent Banks with a TKO and got the three count which was a massive upset.

2) Smash Debut

It was hard to decide which match caught my eye because there were so many matches that were compelling. However a match which really flew under the radar which nobody was talking about was Tyler Tirva against the “Hacker” Scotty O’Shea. I have been watching Triva for a couple months now exclusively at Destiny Wrestling and I must say that he has the complete package and he has sky of the limit potential in my opinion.

Going into this match Triva knew he had to impress the crowd because he’s from the London area and he did not disappoint. I believe him and Scotty O’Shea have incredible chemistry together and for the first time since I have been watching Smash Wrestling which is from the beginning I have never seen O’Shea get dominated like this before. As he always does Scotty O’Shea overcame the obstacles and he hit the CTR ALT DEL for the victory.

3) Cherry Bomb Pipe bomb

There has been numerous fantastic feuds involving the women division in Smash Wrestling but this feud between Cherry Bomb and Courtney Rush has to take the cake. Now prior to the event taking place Cherry Bomb made it official that she would be making an appearance at London Calling for Smash Wrestling. Therefore fans knew that Courtney Rush would not be in the proper mind state taking on two incredible talents in Jennifer Blake and Candice LeRae in a triple threat match.

Rush was clearly not focused because before the match even started Rush had on a knife on her. In the middle of the match Cherry Bomb decided to interrupt and drop an epic pipe bomb on Courtney Rush from the balcony area. Bomb got Rush attention by throwing Rush old hair off the balcony. Then Bomb was taking shots at Rush repeatedly stating that didn’t Rush break her collarbone a couple of years ago but nobody cared compared to her because she had been receiving tons of fan mail because the fans truly care about her.

Then Cherry congratulated Rush for being number 9 on the PWI top 50 Women Wrestlers of the Year but she finished 8th and she stated that she has always been better than Courtney Rush. Then the final blow that Cherry Bomb said that Rush was just like the shit on the bottom of her shoe and once she becomes fully healed from her injury she will be chasing after Courtney Rush because she is not scared of her at all.

RAW Review 28/12/15

Last night RAW took place at The Barclay Centre in Brooklyn and anytime RAW or any event is in the New York area you know that it will be an entertaining event. As always I will provide my three count stating the most significant highlights in addition to the results.

1) Vince McMahon got arrested

When Mr. McMahon revealed he’d be returning to Raw for the first time since Roman Reigns Superman Punched him fans knew it will be for a special reason because McMahon hardly makes TV appearances anymore because time is money. Vince McMahon going to jail is not exactly what he expected but money talks and Vince McMahon always uses his money to get out of his problems. Even though Roman Reigns was laughing Vince McMahon got the last laugh and he stated the first RAW of the new year Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Title against Sheamus with Vince McMahon as the special guest referee.

2) Quality Women’s match

Becky Lynch had to prove herself to Charlotte because she has been assisting Becky Lynch lately with victories with her interference. Before the match because they were live in New York Sasha Banks created heat simply by wearing a New England Patriots fitted hat. This was arguably Becky Lynch best match in recent history and this is why you have to keep Charlotte away from Becky Lynch because she is a legit star in the deep talented Women’s division. This match was very compelling with great action between the two and Team BAD was ringside and they got involved as expected. The finishing sequence of the match was crazy because Becky Lynch went for Dis-Arm-Her but Banks countered into a roll up with a hand full of tights for the win.

3) Cena return

John Cena made his return to the company ever since he lost the US title to Alberto Del Rio at the Hell In A Cell PPV. Alberto Del Rio didn’t want to defend his US Title against Cena but he is persuasive with his words and made Del Rio defend his US Title finally. It was an intense battle between the two and love or hate him when John Cena is with the WWE he always makes the company more intriguing. Cena hit the AA on Del Rio but The League of Nations got themselves involved to help Alberto Del Rio retain his US Title. Then The Usos tried to help by making a save but they were taken out so Roman Reigns ran down the ramp, and he delivered a vicious Spear to Rusev and then he took out King Barrett before hitting Sheamus with a steel chair.

RAW Results

Neville defeated Kevin Owens via roll up

Kalisto defeated Kofi Kingston via a roll up

Big E defeated Sin Cara via a Big Ending

Big Show declared himself as a number one competitor in the Royal Rumble

Ryback defeated Big Show via Count-out

The League of Nations defeated Dean Ambrose and The Usos via Brogue Kick

NXT Review 23/12/15

Photo credit courtesy of the WWE

It was just a week ago since TakeOver: London, NXT returned to the sold-out SSE Arena for a special encore. This crowd once again was rowdy but that being said anytime the WWE goes to Europe they are always vocal.

Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. Blake and Murphy, The Hype Bros and The Vaudevillains

I thought the night opened up with bang with a crazy action packed Tag Team Fatal Four way match between Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. Blake and Murphy, The Hype Bros and The Vaudevillains. I believe this match was booked brilliantly because it showcased all these amazing tag teams in an NXT deep Tag Team Division. Clearly the most over tag team currently in NXT is Jason Jordan and Chad Gable the fans exploded when they entered the SSE Arena and all throughout the match.

The match quickly broke down into complete anarchy as expected with four tag teams, with all eight men standing off in the center of the ring. The referee briefly got the match under control, but it only worked for so long, there was no stopping the teams from fighting. The finishing sequence had Jordan tossed Murphy out of the ring with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex, leaving him alone with Blake in the ring. He and Gable connected with Grand Amplitude on Blake and they went on to pick up their biggest win of their career.

Elias Samson vs. Bull Dempsey

WWE has done an phenomenal job reboot of Elias Samson with vignettes of him playing the guitar for a couple of weeks. Then fans saw Elias Samson come down to the ring with his guitar over his shoulder, “The Drifter” arrived in NXT and he would have his hands full with Bull Dempsey. It was a decent but very quick match even though the Bull used his size as an advantage to overtake Samson, “The Drifter” connected with a well-placed knee before hitting a diving elbow drop from the top rope to earn his first victory in NXT. I thought that even though Elias Samson was involved in limited action he looked very strong and Bull did excellent selling and jobbing for Samson.

Sami Zayn vs. Tye Dillinger

This is what everybody was waiting for the long awaited return of Sami Zayn after being sidelined for 7 months with a shoulder injury. To a very vocal crowd in London and he had some stiff competition in dealing with “The Perfect 10 Tye Dillinger. Dillinger looked to ruin Zayn return by focusing on Zayn’s injured shoulder ramming into the ring post. However, the former NXT Champion Zayn looked extremely motivated Zayn didn’t look rusty at all unleashing a variety of moves Dillinger this lead to a dive over the ropes to the arena floor that took out Dillinger.

Zayn fought through the pain and he caught Tye Dillinger with a vicious exploder Suplex into the corner. He followed that up with his trademark Helluva Kick to get the win. After the match, the former NXT Champion thanked the U.K. fans for making NXT’s first journey overseas unforgettable; Zayn declared that 2016 will be his year!

SuperSmackDown Review 22/12/15

Photo credit courtesy of the WWE

Last night WWE presented SuperSmackDown it was the last SmackDown before Christmas, therefore my expectations were extremely low because on the holiday’s episodes the content is obviously watered down. As I always do I will provide you with my three count as well as the results.

1) Main event

Before the main event even started I like how Renee Young had a segment with the Intercontinental champion Dean Ambrose and challengers asking their thoughts on the match throughout the show and it added significance to the overall Intercontinental Championship. SuperSmackDown showcased an incredible triple threat match main event for the Intercontinental Championship between Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens battled for the prestigious title. There was a unique spot during the match that saw all three fought on the ramp destroying all the Christmas decorations on the stage.

All three men took each other to the limit there was insane spot where Ambrose hit the Dirty Deeds on Owens then Ziggler hit a Zig Zag on Ambrose all at the same. The finishing sequence of the match had Ziggler Superkicked Owens out of the ring, and then this gave Ambrose an opportunity to hit the Dirty Deeds DDT on Ziggler for the three count to retain his Intercontinental Championship. I believe that Ambrose will raise the title to a higher level because he is willing to fight anyone for title anytime.

2) Building chemistry

It seems as of late every time that The Lucha Dragons and The New Day have a match it’s very natural and entertaining. Before the match even started The New Day were still heated from getting robbed and not winning the Slammy Award for the Tag Team of the Year they announced that they will be releasing a Christmas album with songs such as Rudolph the Red-horned unicorn which is hilarious.

The Tag Team Champs had their hands full defending their WWE Tag Team Champions against the high-flyers in Kalisto and Sin Cara. Their high-flying style seemed worked against the Lucha Dragons in addition to the numbers game of The New Day. Sin Cara attempted to hit a spectacular springboard Moonsault on Big E, but he was caught in mid-air and Big E hit the Big Ending for the three count to retain their WWE Tag Team titles.

3) Santino Marella shines once again

Even though he made his return to RAW during the Slammy Awards to present LOL Moment of the year and this past Tuesday on SuperSmackDown Santino Marella was a bright spot on SmackDown. There was a segment where Marella was setting up a Christmas party to only have it ruined by The Ascension, but Titus O’Neil and Neville stood up for their friend and later they had a decent match.

SuperSmackDown results

The Wyatt Family defeated Kane, Ryback and The Dudley Boyz via a Sister Abigail on Bubba Ray Dudley

The League of Nations’ Alberto Del Rio and Rusev defeated The Usos via a double foot stomp on Jey Uso

Titus O’Neil and Neville defeated The Ascension via Red Arrow on Viktor

Divas Champion Charlotte defeated Brie Bella via a Figure Eight

2015 Slammys Awards and RAW Review 21/12/15

Photo credit courtesy via the WWE

Last night RAW was highlighted by the Slammys which is the WWE version of the Grammys and Oscars. As I always do I will provide my highlights of RAW and the Slammys in my three count as well as the results.

1) 2015 Slammy Awards

The Slammy Awards used to have a lot of prestige in the 90’s and it doesn’t have the same meaning now. Some award winners had me questioned if fans actually voted for the winners but they have legit voting because they use Facebook ,WWE App, Twitter and Instagram. I do not know how Kevin Owens got robbed of Newcomer of the Year award and instead Neville won that award, no disrespect to Neville but Owens had a much better impact this year in my opinion. The biggest robbery of the night was The New Day not winning two Slammys the Tag Team of the Year and LOL moment of the year. The Usos winning the Tag Team of the Year it made no sense to me because Jey Uso was injured for half the year. The New Day have had the best and most hilarious moments for almost year now and R-Truth won the LOL Moment of the Year make me speechless.

2015 Slammy Award winners

  • Double Cross of the Year Damien Sandow eliminated The Miz Andre The Giant Battle Royal
  • Extreme Moment of the Year: Roman Reigns levels The League of Nations and Triple H at WWE TLC
  • The Usos won Tag Team of the Year
  • Seth Rollins won Superstar of the Year
  • R-Truth won LOL! Moment of the Year; Kalisto won ‘OMG!’ Shocking Moment of the Year
  • Nikki Bella won Diva of the Year
  • The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar won the Rivalry of Year and Match of the Year
  • The Rock and Ronda Rousey won ‘This is Awesome!’ Moment of the Year
  • Surprise of the Year Sting Returns to RAW
  • Best US Open Challenge John Cena vs. Cesaro
  • The Hero in All of Us Award John Cena
  • Hashtag of the Year: #SuplexCity
  • Celebrity Moment of the Year: Stephen Amell dive onto Stardust at SummerSlam
  • Best Original WWE Network Show: Stone Cold Podcast

2) Disrespected

After Kevin Owens felt disrespected and rightly so after he didn’t receive the Newcomer of the Year because Neville won that award. Owens was heated because Ziggler rubbed it in Owens face and he stated to Zigger the award that he would win is has been of the year. This led to an unbelievable match between the two which was no surprise because they have had amazing chemistry Ziggler took Owens to the limit. However Owens had the last laugh over Dolph Ziggler via the Pop up Powerbomb.

3) Playing with Roman Reigns emotions

Roman Reigns started off RAW and he had enjoyment in making Stephanie McMahon irate. Therefore she kicked out Roman Reigns of the building and she indicated that Dean Ambrose would face Sheamus in a steel cage main event. You knew The League of Nations would be around the steel cage The Usos were taken out backstage in a brutally assault before the match. Therefore Ambrose would have to overcome obstacles like he has his whole career.

The momentum of the match first started to shift when Sheamus connected with White Noise on Ambrose off the top turnbuckle and then Ambrose eventually got up and gained enough strength to deliver an elbow drop off the top of the cage. Roman Reigns made his appearance known during the match he took out Sheamus henchman then he tossed The Lunatic Fringe a steel chair to use against the Celtic Warrior. That Ambrose chose to climb out of the cage it was a photo finish to the end but Ambrose dropped to the floor first.

RAW Results

The Wyatt Family defeated Kane, The Dudley Boyz and Tommy Dreamer via a spinning Clothesline From Luke Harper on D-Von Dudley

U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio defeated Jack Swagger via a Double foot stomp

The Usos defeated WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day via roll up pin on Xavier Woods

Nikki Bella won Diva of the Year; Rusev defeated Neville via The Accolade

Becky Lynch defeated Brie Bella via Dis-Arm-Her

ROH Final Battle 2015 Review 18/12/15

Jay Lethal celebrates his victory over AJ Styles.

Last night ROH presented Final Battle and it didn’t disappoint as I expected having so many compelling matches and intriguing feuds. As I always do I will provide my three count of the most significant highlights of the PPV in addition to the results.

1) Main Event

The main event that everyone was looking forward and it didn’t disappoint as expected it had a big fight feel to it the crowd was hot the whole match. Before I started with the match Taeler Hendrix looked amazing with that white dress she is a straight dime piece in my opinion. Early on in the match both men were feeling each other out the first real moment that Jay Lethal seemed to real danger was when Styles put Lethal in a Calf Killer but Martini got involved which allowed Lethal to ram Styles in the barricade multiple times. Lethal had many amazing spots where he turned a Suplex on Styles into a Neck breaker only for a near fall.

Then Lethal connected with two suicide dives from the ring onto the outside on the barricade, Styles was launched into the fans then on Lethal third attempt at the suicide dive Styles jumped on the barricade and caught Lethal in mid air with an elbow. The finishing sequence of the match was insane Lethal went for the Lethal Injection but Styles countered that with a Pele Kick.

Styles connected with a Bloody Sunday then as soon as both men got to their feet they went to the ropes then they were fighting on the ropes to get possession Lethal threw Styles through the outside table. It took Styles quite a while to get up at the count of 19. Lethal hit a Lethal Injection to Styles for a near fall. Lethal got out of a Styles Clash and he connected with a Cradle Piledriver followed by the Lethal Injection to retain his ROH World Title. I like how Lethal won clean because it adds more significance to the belt and proves that Jay Lethal is the best wrestler is in ROH. In addition I like how Lethal used Cradle Piledriver to spit in the face of Jerry Lynn because Lynn stated that Styles would walk out as ROH Champion.

2) Former friends turned enemies

This match was the one I was looking forward to the most besides the main event and it had the potential to steal the show like I wrote in my preview and I was right. There was great psychology used throughout the match these two wasted very little time going at each other. Kyle O’Reilly put Adam Cole on a chair and he hit a flying dropkick on the outside.

There was a lot chain wrestling and submission holds as expected due to their wrestling styles between both men were trying to gain momentum on each other because the match went going back and forth. It was an awkward finish because Cole used the ropes to win when Todd Sinclar was not looking. Then after the match Kyle O’Reilly official snapped while he applying multiple Arm bars cranking on Cole recently repaired shoulder.

3) Possible turn

Going into the match I knew it was going to be good but it excelled my expectations. Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong proved in this match they are two phenomenal condition athletes. Both Fish and Strong have similar wrestling styles therefore you knew there would a lot of chain and submission wrestling. Strong tossed Fish across the guard rail Strong with an Olympic Slam to Fish for a near fall. Fish unloads with a series of knees and kicks, but Strong came back with his own, and then ran by Fish several times with forearms and chops.

Fish grabbed the leg connected with a Dragon Screw on the apron. The two trade strikes and Fish dropped Strong with a vicious tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on the floor. Fish absolutely destroyed Strong with a Super Falcon Arrow for a near fall. The finishing sequence had Fish had Strong locked in the Fish Lock and Strong tapped out, but the referee doesn’t see Strong tap. Then as Fish celebrated and Strong capitalized on the opportunity he connected with a running knee to pick up the victory and retain his ROH TV Title.

Overall I thought Final Battle really delivered on all levels and moving forward it set up quality feuds moving into the New Year. I would give it a 9/10 and I am very disappointed in myself because I got four of my predictions wrong and that the worst that I have ever done since reviewing PPVs.

ROH Final Battle 2015 Results

The Young Bucks vs. The All Night Xpress vs. The Briscoes in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match to determine the Number One Contenders to the ROH World Tag Team Championship The All Night Xpress ANX with the One Night Stand to pick up the victory.

Michael Elgin defeated Moose Elgin then lifted Moose into the air and connects with the Burning Hammer to pick up the victory.

Matt Sydal and Alex Shelley defeated The Addiction and Chris Sabin ACH with the Midnight Star and Sydal connects with the Shooting Star Press on Chris Sabin to pick up the victory.

Veda Scott and Cedric Alexander cut a promo

Veda stated that they were not invited to Final Battle, but they were not going to miss this show. Veda was talking about they will be back in 2016 she stated a settlement has been reached with ROH.

War Machine defeated The Kingdom Taven War Machine hit Fallout on Taven to pick up the victory and they became The New ROH Tag Team Champions.
